Libyan armed forces deputy chief meets Pakistan air chief in Islamabad

A high-level defence delegation led by Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, met Chief of the Air Staff Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at Air Headquarters in Islamabad on February 2, 2026, to discuss regional security and avenues for strengthening bilateral military cooperation.

The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, the evolving security environment, and prospects for enhanced collaboration between the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and the Libyan Armed Forces, highlighting growing defence engagement between the two countries.

During the talks, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu emphasized the longstanding religious and historical ties between Pakistan and Libya. He outlined PAF’s operational readiness, ongoing modernization efforts, and multi-domain capability development, while reaffirming Pakistan’s willingness to share professional expertise and operational experience with friendly air forces.

The air chief also briefed the visiting delegation on PAF’s focus on indigenization, technological innovation, and human resource development. The delegation was informed about initiatives under the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park, aimed at promoting innovation, public-private collaboration, and a self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in Pakistan.

Lieutenant General Haftar thanked the air chief for the reception and praised the professionalism of Pakistan Air Force personnel. He expressed interest in benefiting from PAF’s operational experience and conveyed Libya’s desire to expand defence cooperation through joint training, military exercises, and professional exchange programmes.

According to a PAF press release, the visit reflects a positive step toward strengthening bilateral defence ties and marks renewed cooperation and partnership between Pakistan and Libya.
