Islamabad: Lawmakers in the National Assembly on Tuesday urged national unity, decisive measures against militancy, and a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes of unrest, with particular focus on Balochistan.

The debate followed a motion moved by Minister of State for Interior and Narcotics Control Muhammad Tallal Badar. Members from across the political spectrum highlighted security, political, and social dimensions of the law and order situation.

MNA Aliya Kamran linked Pakistan’s security and development to sovereignty, warning of external attempts to destabilise the country. She said challenges could only be met through collective resolve and rejection of hostile narratives, while praising security forces as the frontline defence.

MNA Aliya Hamza Malik condemned terrorism and stressed the need to examine drivers of militancy, including radicalisation and recruitment tactics. She cautioned that failure to address unrest in Balochistan could have serious consequences.

MNA Sofia Saeed called for firm action against militants and their facilitators, emphasising preventive mechanisms and stronger institutional coordination. MNA Ijaz ul Haq described insurgency in Balochistan as a long‑standing issue requiring reconciliation with communities rather than negotiations with militants, and urged a clear, consistent policy.

MNA Hina Rabbani Khar said sustainable peace in Balochistan required listening to local concerns and realities. MNA Mirza Ikhtiar Baig condemned the recent terrorist attack in the province, paid tribute to the Pakistan Army, and called for full implementation of the National Action Plan.

MNA Sabheen Ghoury stressed dialogue to end deprivation in Balochistan, while MNA Noor Alam Khan highlighted repeated militant attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including on schools. He rejected distinctions between “good” and “bad” militants, saying all who target civilians or institutions must be dealt with firmly.

The House underscored the need for unity, coordinated policy measures, and sustained efforts to restore peace and stability, particularly in conflict‑affected regions.
