PARIS: Spain and Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has made club history by becoming Barcelona’s youngest-ever captain at the age of 19.

Yamal assumed the captaincy during Barcelona’s 5-1 Champions League victory over Feyenoord after regular captain Raphinha was substituted in the 71st minute and handed the armband to the young forward.

At 19 years and 58 days, Yamal surpassed the previous record held by Bojan Krkić, who captained Barcelona at the age of 20 in 2010.

Another Milestone for Yamal

The achievement adds another milestone to Yamal’s rapidly developing career at Barcelona. The teenager has established himself as one of the club’s leading attacking players and continues to collect records at a young age.

Yamal was also named the best player of the 2025-26 La Liga season, further highlighting his growing status in European football.

The young forward has attracted considerable attention both on and off the pitch in recent months, including after sharing previously unseen photographs with his girlfriend, Inés García, on Instagram.
