LAHORE, Oct 18: Lahore Traffic Police have introduced a free two-day scooty riding programme for female students, offering practical training and road safety guidance as Punjab expands efforts to improve access to two-wheeler transport for young women.

Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said the initiative would provide female students with an opportunity to learn scooty riding under the supervision of qualified instructors at designated traffic police driving schools across Lahore.

The training covers practical riding techniques, safe handling of scooters, essential traffic regulations and road safety measures.

Schools and colleges can also approach the traffic police to arrange dedicated training sessions for their female students.

Free Scooty Training Available at Four Locations

According to the traffic police, training facilities have been established at Liberty Market, Greater Iqbal Park, LOS Ferozepur Road and Manawan to make the programme accessible to students from different parts of Lahore.

A separate free driving course for women is already being conducted at the Ferozepur Road training centre.

Dedicated Gen Z counters have also been introduced to assist female students seeking information and access to training facilities.

The two-day course places particular emphasis on practical scooty handling, allowing participants to develop basic riding skills alongside an understanding of traffic laws and safe road behaviour.

The initiative forms part of the traffic police’s broader efforts to encourage safe and independent mobility among women.

Programme Linked to Punjab’s Expanding E-Bike Scheme

The training initiative comes as the Punjab government expands its electric-bike programme for students.

Under the current Punjab E-Bike Scheme, the provincial government has approved more than 125,000 electric bikes for students through subsidised financing arrangements, including separate support for female applicants.

The wider programme also provides two days of free riding training for students who require practical assistance before using their electric bikes on public roads.

Eligible students have additionally been offered access to a same-day motorcycle licensing facility, eliminating the conventional waiting period between obtaining a learner permit and receiving a regular licence.

These measures are intended to connect access to electric bikes with practical riding skills and licensing facilities.

Women-Focused Driving Programmes Gain Momentum

Lahore Traffic Police have already been operating women-only driving schools offering instruction in car and motorcycle driving.

The department has also extended its training programmes to rickshaw driving, with 34 women recently completing training sessions at Bahria Town and Manawan.

According to the traffic police, more than 200,000 motorcycle licences have been issued during the current year, while additional measures are being undertaken to improve safety for women riders.

The new scooty training programme is expected to support female students seeking independent transportation, particularly those benefiting from Punjab’s expanding electric-bike initiative.

By combining vehicle access with practical training, road safety awareness and licensing facilities, the programme seeks to help female students develop the skills needed to travel more confidently and safely on Lahore’s roads.
