Authorities in Lahore have initiated legal proceedings against citizens who have failed to pay digital traffic challans, with court summons set to be issued to defaulters who remain unpaid for 10 days.
According to SAMAA TV, legal action will be taken against motorists who ignore payment notices. Traffic wardens have been deployed at courts across Lahore to assist with judicial proceedings and the recovery of outstanding fines.
Traffic Fines May Double After 10 Days
Officials said that if a challan remains unpaid, the fine doubles after 10 days and the case is transferred to the courts.
The increased penalties have reportedly discouraged some citizens from visiting courts to recover documents confiscated over traffic violations.
Authorities have also reported that some motorists have obtained replacement identity cards and driving licences rather than paying their outstanding fines to retrieve their original documents.
Nearly 800,000 Challans and Documents Pending
The number of pending digital challans and confiscated documents in Lahore has reportedly approached 800,000, highlighting the scale of the outstanding recovery issue.
Officials have urged citizens to clear their outstanding traffic fines and follow the required procedure to retrieve their confiscated documents.
The court proceedings are intended to strengthen enforcement of traffic regulations and encourage timely payment of digital challans.
