Tarbila Ghazi: A Lady Doctor at the THQ Ghazi Hospital, in what appears to be an attempt to gain credit, wrongfully diagnosed a healthy child as a polio patient. The child’s mother fainted upon hearing the diagnosis, and upon further examination, it was discovered that the child had merely sprained his foot. The head of the district polio team, Dr. Najibullah Khan, has apologized for the incident, while the public has demanded action against the Lady Doctor.
The incident occurred the day before in the Mubeen Banda area of Ghazi, where 18-month-old Shahzeen, son of Muhammad Zahid Jadoon, was unable to put weight on his foot upon waking up. He was immediately taken to the THQ hospital, where the on-duty Lady Doctor examined him and incorrectly declared him to be a polio patient. Upon hearing this, the child’s mother fainted and collapsed.
The child was then referred to Dr. Omar, a child specialist at the Tehsil Topi (Swabi) hospital, where an X-ray and further medical examination confirmed that the child did not have polio but had simply sprained his foot. This news brought immense relief to the parents.
Meanwhile, the district polio team visited Ghazi immediately after the alleged polio case was reported. Dr. Najibullah Khan, head of the polio team, visited the affected family, conducted all necessary tests, and apologized after the tests came back clear.
Although young Shahzeen has since recovered, the trauma caused to his mother due to the false diagnosis and the subsequent stress, which has left her bedridden, raises concerns about accountability. Zahid Jadoon, the father, has stated that if anything happens to his wife, he will take legal action against the Lady Doctor.
