KUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti authorities have arrested several individuals accused of filming an incident involving an American pilot and publishing the footage on social media, the Ministry of Interior said, warning that circulating such content could threaten public security and social stability.

The ministry said the arrests were carried out by the Criminal Security Sector after authorities identified people who recorded ongoing events and shared video clips online.

Officials said the circulation of the footage misled public opinion and contributed to fear among citizens and residents.

Authorities cite security and public order concerns

In a statement, the Ministry of Interior said the individuals were detained for actions considered harmful to public order, including filming sensitive incidents and distributing the videos through social media platforms without authorization.

Officials said such material can spread confusion and interfere with security efforts, particularly when it involves active situations or security-related incidents.

Monitoring of social media to continue

The ministry also confirmed the arrest of several individuals accused of publishing online content expressing sympathy for terrorist organisations through personal social media accounts.

Authorities said security agencies would continue monitoring online platforms and conducting follow-up operations to identify violations related to public security.

All those detained have been referred to the competent authorities after legal procedures were initiated, the statement added.

The ministry reiterated that it had previously warned against circulating unverified or sensitive content and said it would take legal action against anyone attempting to undermine Kuwait’s security.

Citizens and residents were urged to rely on official government sources for information and to avoid filming security operations or personnel while they are carrying out their duties. Officials warned that such actions could result in legal penalties and may obstruct security operations aimed at maintaining safety and stability.
