KUST awards degrees to graduates at 15th convocation in Kohat

KOHAT — Hundreds of students graduated at the 15th convocation of Kohat University of Science and Technology on Thursday, where government officials highlighted the growing importance of research, modern education and market-driven skills for Pakistan’s future workforce.

The ceremony brought together students, parents, faculty members and senior officials at the university’s Iftikhar Hussain Auditorium, as graduates received degrees and academic awards in a celebratory atmosphere.

Meena Khan Afridi attended the event as chief guest alongside Shafi Jan, lawmakers, university leadership and district administration officials.

Speaking at the convocation, Meena Khan Afridi said education, research and practical skills are essential for long-term national progress and economic development. He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is introducing reforms aimed at improving university standards and preparing students for modern job market demands.

The minister said higher education institutions must focus not only on awarding degrees but also on equipping students with industry-relevant and practical skills.

Vice Chancellor Syed Zafar Ilyas and other officials congratulated students on completing their academic journey and encouraged graduates to contribute positively to society and national development.

Shafi Jan said the provincial government is prioritizing youth empowerment through skill-based education and stronger academic institutions.

The convocation concluded with emotional scenes as students celebrated the milestone with their families and faculty members.
