Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has called for uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers who regularly pay their bills, describing it as their fundamental right.

He made the remarks while chairing a meeting on electricity load-shedding across the province, attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Fakhr Alam Irfan, PESCO Chief Akhtar Hameed Khan, TESCO Chief Zubair Khan Kundi and other relevant officials.

During the meeting, the governor received a detailed briefing on electricity load-shedding, line losses, bill recovery and other related issues. Participants also discussed the causes of prolonged power outages, challenges faced by relevant departments and possible solutions.

Calls For Transformer-Based Load-Shedding

Governor Kundi stressed the need to introduce a transformer-based load-shedding mechanism to ensure that consumers on other feeders are not affected by power outages.

He called for effective measures to improve bill recovery in feeders with low collection rates and said installing smart transformers could play a significant role in curbing electricity theft.

The governor also proposed activating committees comprising relevant departments to prevent power theft. He emphasised the need for stricter legislation against electricity theft and tampering with electricity meters.

Coordinated Strategy To Reduce Power Losses

Kundi said a coordinated strategy was essential to prevent electricity theft and reduce line losses.

He directed the concerned authorities to utilise all available resources to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply to the public.

The governor added that resolving electricity-related problems faced by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa must remain the government’s top priority.
