Peshawar: A major KP Food Authority Crackdown in Peshawar led to the seizure of 975 kilograms of banned China salt. Acting on a tip-off, the Town-4 Food Safety Team, supervised by KPFS&HFA Director General Wasif Saeed, raided a warehouse and vehicle in Peepal Mandi. They recovered 39 bags of the prohibited substance.
Officials have begun legal action against the owners under the Food Safety Act. The consignment was reportedly meant for use in local eateries, raising serious health concerns.
KP Minister for Food, Zahir Shah Toru, praised the operation. He urged officials to intensify efforts against those selling or producing hazardous food items. He also called on citizens to report such practices promptly so authorities can respond quickly.
The KP Food Authority Crackdown highlights the province’s commitment to food safety enforcement. China salt, or monosodium glutamate (MSG), remains banned due to its health risks. Despite restrictions, some vendors continue to distribute it illegally.
Meanwhile, KPFS&HFA teams have increased surveillance in high-risk zones across Peshawar. They plan more inspections and community outreach to raise awareness about food safety standards.
The authority is also expanding its outreach. Officials are working with schools, markets, and eateries to promote hygienic practices and discourage banned additives. Public seminars and training sessions will help food handlers meet safety regulations.
In addition, KPFS&HFA aims to strengthen ties with municipal bodies and law enforcement. Coordinated efforts will improve future raids and ensure consistent monitoring of food supply chains.
