Swat: Sohail Afridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has said his government and party will oppose any decisions taken “behind closed doors” and will not accept any move to impose Governor’s rule in the province.

Addressing supporters during a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) street movement in Mingora, Afridi said any unconstitutional steps taken against the provincial government would be resisted. He said the party would stand firmly against what he described as efforts to undermine the public mandate.

Earlier, the chief minister arrived at Do Jangi Chowk in Mingora, where he was welcomed by party leaders and workers. His convoy was received at several locations, including Qamber Chowk, Balogram Chowk, and Brikot Chowk. He was accompanied by senior PTI leaders, provincial ministers, members of the National Assembly and Provincial Assembly, and party lawyers.

In his address, Afridi said he was nominated for the chief minister’s post by former prime minister Imran Khan, and despite opposition at the time, the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa endorsed that decision through their votes. He said his government’s performance reflected that mandate.

Afridi alleged that organized campaigns were launched against him, including attempts to portray him negatively and circulate videos in press briefings. He claimed there were plans to disqualify him, impose Governor’s rule, and destabilize the provincial government, while security operations in his constituency led to displacement of residents.

He said his party was not opposed to state institutions or the armed forces but would openly challenge decisions that go against public will. He warned that efforts were being made to create friction between the provincial government and institutions to weaken the KP administration.

Referring to a past incident, Afridi said he left an official meeting to attend the funeral of a fallen soldier, which he said demonstrated his respect for the armed forces.

The chief minister announced that all future communication with the federal government would be formally documented. He also said an “Afridi Qaumi Jirga” would be convened on Sunday to ascertain whether residents were forcibly displaced from their areas or left voluntarily, adding that he would personally accompany them if displacement was confirmed.

Afridi further stated that certain notifications issued over the past few days would be formally withdrawn with an apology. He described Swat as a region with a strong sense of dignity and said its people would not remain silent in the face of perceived injustice.

He also expressed support for PTI leader Murad Saeed and said the party’s street movement, directed by Imran Khan from jail, would continue with full preparation. He added that responsibilities for negotiations and protests had been assigned to Mahmood Achakzai and Allama Nasir Raja.
