KP Assembly Speaker Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Media Capacity Building

Peshawar: Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Saleem Swati has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening media relations and enhancing the professional capacity of parliamentary reporters, underscoring the role of a free and responsible press in supporting democratic transparency.

The remarks came during a meeting with a delegation of the KP Assembly Press Gallery at the Assembly Secretariat in Peshawar on June 23, 2026.

The delegation, led by Press Gallery President Gulzar Khan, General Secretary Rasool Dawar, and Coordinator Arsalan Junaid, called on the Speaker to discuss ongoing media-related initiatives and professional development opportunities for parliamentary reporters.

During the meeting, the Press Gallery leadership expressed appreciation for a recently arranged training workshop for journalists in Nathiagali, terming it a useful initiative for capacity building and professional growth.

Speaker Babar Saleem Swati said parliamentary reporters serve as a crucial link between the legislature and the public by ensuring accurate, timely, and informed reporting of assembly proceedings. He added that strengthening journalistic capacity through training and exposure visits would help improve reporting standards and reinforce democratic institutions.

He assured the delegation of continued cooperation and support for media representatives covering the provincial legislature.

The Speaker also directed relevant authorities to arrange a recreational and study tour for Press Gallery members to Naran next month, aimed at further enhancing learning, exposure, and professional engagement opportunities for journalists.
