Peshawar: A committee meeting to review the proposed amendments to the Acid and Crime Bill was held at the office of the Provincial Women Commission Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by committee members and former Members of the Provincial Assembly Asia Saleh Khattak and Ayesha Naeem. Secretary Women Commission Amina Durrani was also present.

During the session, participants held detailed discussions on the proposed amendments, focusing on strengthening legal provisions to prevent acid attacks and curb crimes related to the misuse of acid. Committee members presented various recommendations aimed at enhancing deterrence and improving enforcement mechanisms.
The meeting emphasized the need for strict regulation of individuals and entities involved in the acid trade, along with the establishment of a clear and effective framework for the import, export, sale, and distribution of acid to prevent misuse.
It was agreed that the draft bill has entered its final stage. The committee decided that a comprehensive consultation meeting with all relevant stakeholders will be convened shortly, after which the amended bill will be presented to the provincial assembly for approval.
Officials stated that in the next meeting, the proposed amendments to the Acid and Crime Bill will be finalized, marking a key step toward strengthening legal safeguards against acid-related violence.
