PESHAWAR: A detailed Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) report on the Kohat Police Lines blast has found that 869 kilograms of explosive material were used in the attack, while additional unexploded devices and a suicide jacket were recovered from the Special Branch building.
The report, submitted to the Central Police Office, also identifies the apparent blast centre and provides details about the damage site and the sequence of events following the explosion. The attack on September 18 killed 22 people, including police personnel, and injured more than 100 others.
BDU report details blast site
According to the report, the blast crater measured approximately 6.6 feet by 11 feet, with a depth of 4.6 feet.
Investigators also made an initial identification of the vehicle allegedly used in the attack. The report recorded the total quantity of explosive material involved as 869kg.
Unexploded devices recovered
The BDU team recovered unexploded explosive material from inside the Special Branch building.
Two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered from the ground floor, while a suicide jacket containing four IEDs was found on the first floor, according to the report.
Attackers entered police lines after blast
The report states that after the initial explosion, the attackers entered the old Kohat Police Lines and launched an armed assault.
According to the findings, the attackers subsequently took positions inside the Special Branch block, where they established fortified positions.
September 18 attack
The blast occurred during Friday prayers at a mosque in the Kohat Police Lines on September 18.
The attack resulted in the deaths of 22 people, including police personnel, while more than 100 others were injured. The latest BDU findings provide additional details about the explosive material, devices recovered from the site and the movements of the attackers following the initial blast.
