Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Rubina Khalid on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering political, moral and diplomatic support for the people of Kashmir on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day.
In a statement, Rubina Khalid said Kashmir Solidarity Day serves as a reminder of Pakistan’s continued commitment to the Kashmiri people and a tribute to the sacrifices made by those who have struggled for their rights. She said the Kashmiri population has endured decades of oppression and urged the international community to take notice of the prevailing situation.
The BISP chairperson stressed that the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people must be granted in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions. She reiterated that Pakistan remains firmly committed to supporting the Kashmir cause at all political and diplomatic forums.
Rubina Khalid said the Pakistan Peoples Party has consistently supported the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. She recalled that the party’s founder, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, had described Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein,” while former prime minister Benazir Bhutto effectively highlighted the Kashmir issue at the international level.
She added that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari continues to raise the voice of the Kashmiri people on global platforms, while President Asif Ali Zardari is actively providing diplomatic support for the protection of Kashmiri rights.
The BISP chairperson said the Pakistan Peoples Party would never abandon the Kashmiri people and would continue to support the Kashmir cause through democratic, constitutional and peaceful means. She also said Kashmir Solidarity Day is an occasion to honour the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs.
Highlighting the role of social protection, Rubina Khalid said the Benazir Income Support Programme remains committed to the protection of human dignity and fundamental rights, in line with Pakistan’s broader principles and values.
