The weather bureau’s early warning center has predicted strong winds in the city. According to the resort, on Friday and Saturday there is a possibility of exceptionally strong winds, which will increase the intensity of the cold weather. The city is expected to experience cold and dry weather for several days. Minimum temperatures should be between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius. Extreme cold is expected in other areas of the province including Larkana, Tharparkar and Umerkot, with the possibility of fog in central and northern districts of Sindh, especially at night and in the morning. According to the Meteorological Department, a new western weather system will enter Pakistan from Balochistan on January 18. No rain is expected in Karachi under this new system, but once it moves to northern areas, a cold tailwind may affect Karachi. Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz said that Karachi is expected to experience cold and dry wind (cold wave) in the last week of this month due to a new western system. This will lead to an increase in cold intensity due to dry and slightly stronger winds than usual. Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had predicted cold and dry weather in most parts of the country, with very cold weather in the hilly areas. Light to dense fog has affected most districts of Punjab and upper Sindh during the morning and night hours, which may cause disruption to visibility and travel. Light rain and snowfall occurred in isolated areas of northwest Balochistan due to the presence of a shallow westerly wave. The lowest temperatures recorded during the period included -12 in Leh, -11 in Gupis and -10 in Skardu and Astore.
