Karachi witnessed an increase in cold intensity on Sunday as the minimum temperature dropped to 9.8 degrees Celsius, marking one of the coldest mornings of the season. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the city could face stronger than usual cold winds on Monday, Express News reported. These winds are expected to further reduce temperatures, with the minimum mercury forecast to reach 9C. The weather in Karachi is forecast to remain cool and dry during the next 24 hours, with maximum temperatures peaking at 28°C and minimums hovering around 9°C. Light fog also reduced visibility to 3 kilometers, northeast wind blowing at 5 to 20 km/h. A minimum temperature of 12°C was measured on Saturday, which highlighted the significant drop in temperatures overnight. Karachiites have been advised to brace themselves for colder mornings as the winter chill deepens, with stronger winds likely to contribute to the drop in temperatures. The PMD Early Warning Center stressed that colder conditions could persist into the coming week. Residents are urged to take precautions, especially in the early mornings and late evenings, to stay warm and safe amid the intensifying winter season. According to the Meteorological Department, a shallow westerly wave was expected to hit the eastern and upper parts of the country yesterday, bringing cold weather, rain and fog over the weekend. Cold and dry weather prevailed across the country in the last 24 hours, except isolated 1 mm rainfall in Mirpurkhas. Light to dense fog was observed in parts of East and Central Punjab. The coldest temperatures recorded on Saturday morning included Leh at -13°C, Parachinar at -12°C, Astore at -11°C, Gopis at -10°C, Skardu at -9°C, Kalam at -7°C, and Hunza at -6 °C.
