KARACHI: Karachi has broken a nine-year September heat record after the city’s maximum temperature reached 40.7°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
The temperature was recorded at a government weather station on Monday, surpassing the previous September record of 40.5°C set in 2017.
Heatwave Conditions Expected to Continue
The Met Department said the ongoing hot spell is expected to persist, with temperatures likely to remain between 36°C and 38°C in the coming days.
Higher humidity has also pushed the heat index several degrees above the actual air temperature, increasing the impact of the heat on residents.
According to the weather department, the recent rise in temperatures has been linked to a circulation developing over the Arabian Sea and the activation of El Niño conditions.
The latest readings mark the highest September temperature recorded in Karachi since 2017, highlighting the intensity of the current hot spell.
