The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that temperatures will drop again in Karachi from Saturday, with a fresh cold wave expected to grip the city.
Over the next two days, the weather in Karachi is forecast to see a slight rise in temperatures with a minimum of 13°C and a maximum of 27°C.
However, the PMD said that the weather system currently entering the country could cause rain in parts of Balochistan. Once the system exits, Karachi is likely to face cold winds that could drop temperatures significantly.
“A new cold wave is expected, with temperatures potentially dropping to a single-digit low of 6°C,” the PMD added, adding that the cold spell could last a week.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz dismissed the possibility of breaking Karachi’s all-time record. “In January 1934, the city recorded a low of 0C and is unlikely to break that,” he said.
A westerly wind system will enter the country from Wednesday evening, bringing rain and thunderstorms, especially from 1st to 4th January 2025 in Quetta, Ziarat and Chaman. Light rains and thundershowers are also expected over upper Sindh on January 3-4.
The Met Office said this weather pattern could continue until January 6, with more rain and thunderstorms expected during this period.
