MUMBAI: The makers of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy have released the film’s teaser amid an ongoing legal dispute with Bollywood star Salman Khan, intensifying the controversy surrounding the project.
The teaser includes several apparent references associated with Salman Khan, including the words “Dabangg” and “Sikander”—titles of two of his films—and a turquoise bracelet resembling the actor’s signature accessory. The release comes as the Delhi High Court continues to hear Khan’s plea seeking to restrain the film’s release.
Teaser Released During Court Proceedings
The teaser was unveiled just days after the Delhi High Court adjourned a hearing on Salman Khan’s petition. The court did not grant an interim stay on the film’s release, and the matter was postponed due to a lack of time.
The filmmakers have also announced that Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy will be released in cinemas soon, although an official release date has not yet been confirmed.
Salman Khan Alleges Personality Rights Violation
According to Salman Khan’s petition before the Delhi High Court, the film unlawfully exploits his personality rights and depicts events allegedly linked to him without his consent.
The actor claims the project is inspired by his 1998 blackbuck poaching case and his alleged rivalry with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
Earlier, the High Court issued notices to filmmaker Amit Jani and other respondents after Khan sought interim relief to block the film’s release.
Makers Describe Film as Courtroom Crime Thriller
Before approaching the court, Salman Khan’s legal team reportedly sent a legal notice to the filmmakers demanding that they halt the film’s release and remove promotional material, including posters and marketing content.
Directed by Bharat S. Shrinet and produced by Amit Jani, Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy has been described by its makers as a courtroom drama blended with a crime thriller on an international scale.
The legal proceedings remain ongoing, and the court has yet to rule on Salman Khan’s request.
