ISLAMABAD: Pakistan women’s cricketer Kainat Imtiaz has announced her retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to her playing career for the national team.
According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Kainat represented Pakistan in 19 ODIs and 21 T20Is.
The fast bowler was part of the Pakistan teams that won gold medals at the Asian Games in 2010 and 2014.
Kainat played her final ODI against Australia in January 2023, while her last T20I appearance came against Thailand in October 2022.
Following her playing career, Kainat also became involved in cricket commentary and has recently begun a new role as a women’s match referee.
Her involvement in cricket officiating also reflects her family’s connection to the profession. Her mother, Saleema Imtiaz, became the first Pakistani woman to join the ICC International Development Panel of Umpires.
Saleema Imtiaz has officiated in nine Women’s ODIs and 69 Women’s T20Is to date.
Kainat’s transition into match refereeing and commentary marks a new chapter in her association with cricket after representing Pakistan at the international level.
