JICA Trains Second Batch of Farmers to Strengthen Agriculture Skills in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

2 Min Read

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Pakistan concluded a three-day Farmers Training Program at the National Agriculture Research Council (NARC), Islamabad, on Wednesday. Held from 24–26 November, the training is part of JICA’s continuing cooperation under the Knowledge Co-Creation Program (KCCP) on Agriculture Extension Planning and Management, initiated in 2018.

Capacity-Building Drive Continues with Successive Batches of Trainees

The latest group represents the second batch of farmers to receive specialized training this year. JICA’s broader capacity-building initiative has already trained one batch of Agriculture Officers (AOs) in July and two batches of Field Assistants (FAs) in August and September. Two additional batches of FA training are scheduled in the coming months.

To date, the program has benefited 100 participants—including AOs, FAs, and farmers from the merged districts—strengthening their technical knowledge and improving practical competencies in modern agriculture.

Farmers Gain Hands-On Exposure to Modern and Sustainable Practices

A senior JICA representative said the training provides a platform for knowledge sharing, hands-on learning, and exposure to innovative agricultural techniques. The goal is to empower farming communities by equipping them with the skills required to improve productivity and adopt sustainable practices.

The sessions covered a range of critical areas, including modern crop production methods, efficient seed, input and water-use management, high-value agriculture, and value-chain development. Field demonstrations and practical modules were also included to enhance real-world application.

Joint Effort Aims to Strengthen Extension Services in Merged Districts

The training was jointly organized by JICA, NARC, and the Directorate General Agriculture Extension Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (DGAE-KP). Together, the institutions aim to bolster agricultural development, expand extension services, and promote modern techniques across the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
