Karachi: The Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi, in collaboration with the Japan Foundation, Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association Sindh (PJCA) and the Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP), will host the Japanese Film Festival 2026 in Karachi from September 4.
The festival will open with a public screening of Children of the Sea at Auditorium 1 of the Arts Council of Pakistan on Friday, September 4, at 5pm. Entry will be free, but online registration will be mandatory.
Six Japanese Films to Be Screened
The festival will feature six Japanese films representing different genres and styles of contemporary Japanese cinema:
- Children of the Sea
- Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko
- Ride Your Wave
- BISHU: The World’s Kindest Clothes
- Lu Over the Wall
- The Place Promised in Our Early Days
The opening screening will include remarks by the Consul-General of Japan in Karachi and the chief guest.
Following the inaugural event, five additional screenings will be held exclusively for selected partner universities across Karachi.
Promoting Cultural Exchange
Organizers said the festival aims to introduce Pakistani audiences to Japanese cinema while strengthening cultural ties and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Pakistan.
