Japan Donates 164 Books to Mehran University Under READ JAPAN Project

JAMSHORO: The Acting Consul General of Japan in Karachi attended a book handover ceremony at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, where 164 books were donated under the READ JAPAN Project to promote academic and cultural understanding of Japan.

The donation, made in collaboration with the Tokyo Foundation, aims to expand access to literature on Japan for students, researchers, and academics, while strengthening educational and cultural ties between Japan and Pakistan.

Books Donated to Promote Cultural Exchange

Acting Consul General Tamura Takahiro formally presented the collection of 164 books to Mehran University on behalf of the Tokyo Foundation during the ceremony held on July 15.

The donated books cover a wide range of subjects related to Japan, offering insights into the country’s history, society, culture, politics, and other academic fields.

Japan Reaffirms Commitment to Educational Cooperation

Addressing the ceremony, Tamura Takahiro emphasized the importance of academic and cultural exchange in further strengthening the longstanding relationship between Japan and Pakistan.

He said the books would serve as a valuable resource for students, researchers, opinion leaders, and intellectuals interested in gaining a deeper understanding of Japan.

MUET Highlights Longstanding Partnership

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali noted that Mehran University received key equipment from Japan during its early years and has participated in Japanese exchange initiatives, including the JENESYS and SAKURA programs.

He thanked the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi and the Tokyo Foundation for the second donation under the project and expressed hope for expanded academic cooperation in the future.

About the READ JAPAN Project

Launched in 2008 by the Tokyo Foundation with financial support from the Nippon Foundation, the READ JAPAN Project donates English-language books to universities, libraries, and research institutions around the world.

The initiative is designed to promote knowledge about Japan and support cultural diplomacy by improving access to high-quality academic resources.
