GUJAR KHAN: A two-hour strike call by Jamaat-e-Islami on September 3 received little response in Gujar Khan, according to local residents and traders, while the closure of service roads caused difficulties for commuters during the morning rush.
The strike was scheduled from 8am to 10am. Traders and residents said the timing made it difficult to assess its impact because many shops and markets in Gujar Khan normally open around 10am.
Service Road Closures Cause Disruption
Residents said service roads were blocked during the protest, creating difficulties for commuters, students, office workers and people travelling to hospitals.
The road closures added to congestion and disrupted morning travel, according to local accounts.
The protest ended at 10am, when organizers announced that businesses could reopen.
Residents Criticize Protest Strategy
Some local residents criticized the timing and organization of the strike, arguing that the two-hour closure did not demonstrate broad participation because commercial activity had not fully started during much of the scheduled protest period.
Residents also expressed frustration over repeated protest calls and rising fuel prices, saying increased petroleum costs were adding to the financial pressure on households and businesses.
The strike was part of Jamaat-e-Islami’s wider protest campaign over inflation, fuel prices, taxes and rising electricity costs.
