The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly advanced 25 km southwest of Damascus, indicating that the source had entered Syrian territory near Qata.
Jpost quoted an IDF spokesman as saying that the Israeli army intervened outside the buffer zone and said that the operation was taking place in the demilitarized zone.
An Israeli tank was found about 20 km from Damascus, raising tensions in the area. Meanwhile, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) conducted a major operation targeting Syrian naval assets. Israeli naval missile boats destroyed a number of Syrian vessels, including those carrying surface-to-air missiles, in the Mina al-Bayda area and in the port of Latakia. The IDF confirmed that the operation was aimed at preventing Syrian naval assets from falling into the hands of enemy groups.
Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon assured the UN Security Council that the measures were limited, temporary and aimed at neutralizing security threats, especially for Israeli citizens living in the Golan Heights. Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz has ordered the IDF to secure the area and establish contact with the local population, including strengthening operations along the Syrian border.
