Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz said the military killed a senior Iranian security official in overnight airstrikes, as Iran continued missile and drone attacks across the region in the third week of the conflict.
Katz said Iran’s security chief Ali Larijani and Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani were among those targeted, though there was no immediate confirmation from Iran. Iranian state media did not comment on the claims.
The developments come as fighting between Iran, Israel and the United States intensifies, with regional security and global energy supplies under pressure.
Israeli claims on senior figures
Israeli officials said the strikes were part of a broader campaign targeting senior figures within Iran’s security structure, including leaders associated with the Basij, a paramilitary force under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said operations were aimed at “senior officials of the Iranian regime,” without providing further details.
Ongoing strikes on both sides
Iran launched missile strikes on Israel overnight, indicating it retains long-range strike capability despite continued US and Israeli military operations.
The Israeli military said it carried out additional strikes targeting infrastructure in Tehran and sites linked to Hezbollah in Beirut, as part of ongoing operations.
The conflict has entered its third week, with more than 2,000 people reported killed so far. Both sides have continued exchanges of attacks, with no indication of a near-term de-escalation.
Strait of Hormuz disruption
The escalation has affected activity in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and gas shipments that carries about 20 percent of global supply.
Disruptions in the waterway have contributed to rising energy prices and increased concern among policymakers and markets.
