Islamabad: At least six people were killed and 11 others injured after an explosion ripped through a house in Islamabad’s Sector G-7/2 on Sunday, where a wedding ceremony was underway, officials said.
Authorities confirmed that the deceased included both the bride and the groom, turning the wedding celebrations into a scene of tragedy.
According to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) spokesperson Dr Aneeza Jalil, six bodies and 11 injured individuals were brought to the hospital following the blast. She said the injured were being provided medical treatment, adding that one victim sustained around 20 per cent burn injuries and was shifted to the hospital’s burns centre.
Dr Jalil said an emergency was imposed at Pims on the directives of its Executive Director Dr Rana Imran Sikander to ensure immediate medical response.

Meanwhile, Sahibzada Yusuf, Islamabad’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), visited the site on the instructions of Irfan Nawaz Memon. Speaking to the media, he confirmed that at least four houses were damaged in the explosion.
The blast occurred at a wedding venue where guests were present, he said, adding that all those trapped under the rubble were rescued using advanced rescue equipment. Rescue teams continued further checks at the site with specialised tools.
An inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the explosion. However, ADC Yusuf said preliminary assessments suggested that the incident appeared to be caused by a gas cylinder explosion.
In a separate statement, the Senate of Pakistan said that Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani expressed deep grief over the incident.
