Islamabad Deputy Inspector General of Police Ali Waseem has ordered legal action under the Anti-Rape Act against individuals accused of filing allegedly false rape cases and giving statements reportedly intended to help suspects secure the dismissal of cases.
According to police officials, directions have been issued to register cases against complainants and witnesses in seven cases.
Ali Waseem said legal action would be taken against those found to have misused the law for personal gain by making false allegations or providing statements in exchange for large sums of money.
He said the initiative aims to discourage the misuse of legal provisions and ensure the delivery of justice.
The DIG added that providing justice to genuine victims and protecting the rights of citizens, including women, remain among the Islamabad Police’s top priorities.
