ISLAMABAD, October 10, 2026: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has abolished the urgent fee for driving licences and reduced the regular licence processing time from two weeks to just three days, according to the announcement.
The initiative was introduced on the directives of Islamabad Inspector General of Police Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry to simplify the licensing process and improve public access to services.
Under the new policy, applicants can receive their driving licences within two to three days at the regular fee, without paying additional charges for urgent processing. Licences can also be delivered directly to applicants’ homes if they provide their residential address on the application form.
Applicants seeking a new driving licence will need to visit an Islamabad Traffic Police office once to complete the required medical and physical tests, photography and other formalities.
The procedure for licence renewals and duplicate licences has also been simplified. Citizens visiting ITP offices or police facilitation centres can reportedly obtain a renewed or duplicate licence within one hour after paying the prescribed fee, with the urgent fee also eliminated for these services.
The reform aims to reduce waiting times, eliminate additional charges and make driving licence services more accessible for Islamabad residents.
