ISLAMABAD — Several people were injured after an explosion at an imambargah in Islamabad on Friday, prompting an emergency response by police and rescue services and the activation of emergency protocols at major hospitals in the federal capital. The blast was reported at the Tarlai Imambargah in the Shehzad Town area.
Police and rescue teams reached the site shortly after the incident and began evacuating the injured. Authorities said the situation was being assessed and investigations were underway to determine the cause of the explosion.
Emergency measures were imposed at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Polyclinic Hospital and CDA Hospital. A PIMS spokesperson confirmed that, on the directives of the executive director, emergency status was enforced and key departments—including emergency, orthopaedics, burn centre and neurology—were activated to receive patients.
Injured individuals were shifted to PIMS and Polyclinic Hospital for treatment, hospital officials said. No official figures on casualties were immediately available.
The incident comes less than three months after a suicide blast outside a district and sessions court building in Islamabad’s G-11 area on November 11, 2025, which killed 12 people and injured more than 30.
