Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced a major expansion of its cashless payments system, extending digital transactions to hotels, restaurants, petrol pumps, and guest houses across Islamabad. The initiative is part of a broader plan to transform the federal capital into a fully cashless model city.
Broader Rollout of Digital Transactions
Officials confirmed that the expansion of cashless payments system aligns with the Prime Minister’s and Interior Minister’s vision for a digitally integrated urban economy. QR code payments have already been introduced in weekly markets, the CDA One Window Center, and on metro and electric buses. The system is now being deployed at shopping malls, Class III markets, and other commercial hubs.
With the latest phase, businesses in the hospitality and fuel sectors will be required to adopt the cashless payments system. The transition is expected to improve transparency, reduce reliance on cash, and streamline customer transactions.
Public Awareness and Incentives
To support adoption, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed banks to launch awareness campaigns for merchants and consumers. He also encouraged traders and shopkeepers to offer discounts and incentives to customers using QR code payments, helping accelerate public uptake.
Parallel Digital Initiatives
Randhawa added that complementary measures, including M Tag systems and smart parking solutions, are being introduced in parallel. These steps form part of Islamabad’s broader strategy to evolve into a fully digital and technology-enabled city.
