Islamabad: The Information Service Academy (ISA), in collaboration with the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS), organized a strategic dialogue in Islamabad to discuss regional security developments and Pakistan’s strategic options in the evolving South Asian environment.
The dialogue, titled “India’s Aggression and Pakistan’s Strategic Response: Contemplating the Future Course of Action,” was held at the ISA Auditorium and attended by senior military officials, diplomats, policy experts, academics, media representatives, and students from various universities.
Opening remarks at ISA–IRS strategic dialogue
In her opening remarks, Executive Director General ISA Imrana Wazir said the forum aimed to promote informed discussion on regional security issues at a time of heightened tensions in South Asia. She emphasized the role of research-based dialogue in understanding emerging regional and global challenges.
Keynote address on regional security
The keynote address was delivered by former Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Zubair Mehmood Hayat, who attended as guest of honour. He spoke on recent regional developments, stressing the importance of vigilance, deterrence, and strategic planning.
He said regional stability required sustained security preparedness and stated that India’s strategic assumptions had not achieved their intended outcomes. He also said that regional peace would require a shift toward diplomacy and restraint.
Panel discussion on military and diplomatic dimensions
The panel included former Corps Commander Khalid Rabbani, former Foreign Secretaries Jauhar Saleem and Aizaz Ahmad, and President SASSI University Maria Sultan.
Panelists discussed regional stability, military preparedness, air power capabilities, and diplomatic engagement, highlighting the need for a calibrated military posture alongside sustained diplomatic efforts.
Student interaction and concluding session
An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which students from different universities asked questions related to regional security and strategic policy.
In her concluding remarks, the Executive Director General ISA summarized the discussion and said the dialogue was the first in a planned series of engagements to be held over the next six months on related policy and security topics. She also acknowledged the collaboration with the Institute of Regional Studies.
Officials, diplomats, representatives from civil society, think tanks, media organizations, and students attended the event.
