TEHRAN — Iran launched fresh missile attacks on U.S. and Israeli targets, firing more than 40 missiles and claiming to have destroyed 10 drones during the latest phase of the conflict, according to statements from Iranian military officials.
Iranian authorities said the strikes were carried out in response to recent attacks by the United States and Israel. Officials stated that American military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain were among the locations targeted during the retaliatory operation.
An Iranian military spokesperson said the missile barrage was aimed at both U.S. and Israeli positions in the region, while Iranian air defense systems also shot down 10 drones during the confrontation.
The spokesperson warned that if the United States and Israel attempt to pursue regime change in Iran, Tehran could respond by targeting Israel’s nuclear facilities.
Explosions reported in Israel
The Israeli military confirmed that Iran fired several rounds of missiles toward Israel early Thursday, triggering air raid alerts across multiple areas.
According to reports from AFP, explosions were heard in Jerusalem following one of the missile launches. The Israeli military issued three separate alerts within two hours warning of incoming Iranian missile fire after a lull of more than seven hours.
Israel’s emergency service, Magen David Adom, said it had received no immediate reports of casualties from the early morning attacks. Authorities later said residents could leave shelters after the alerts ended.
Hezbollah claims drone strike
The Lebanese armed group Hezbollah also claimed it had targeted an Israeli military base south of Tel Aviv using a drone aimed at an Iron Dome radar installation.
The development followed Israeli airstrikes in Beirut on Wednesday, which local authorities said killed three people and injured six others.
Regional disruption and air travel impact
The escalating conflict has disrupted aviation across the Middle East. Flight tracking data indicates that more than 20,000 flights across eight countries have been cancelled over the past five days due to security concerns.
Air travel between Pakistan and several Middle Eastern destinations has also been affected, with aviation authorities reporting that 145 flights were cancelled during the same period.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence said its air defense forces intercepted and destroyed three cruise missiles near the city of Al-Kharj, adding that no casualties were reported.
Civilian casualties reported in Iran
The U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported that more than 1,000 civilians have been killed in U.S.-Israeli airstrikes in Iran since the conflict began on Saturday.
The organization said the reported death toll includes 181 children under the age of 10. It also reported more than 5,000 injuries.
HRANA said it had documented 1,097 confirmed civilian deaths, while an additional 880 reported fatalities remain under review for verification.
The conflict began with a large wave of airstrikes targeting multiple locations in Iran, including attacks that Iranian officials said killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior military and political figures.
