The Indian Premier League (IPL) has come under renewed scrutiny following allegations that confidential team information was allegedly passed to bookmakers during the 2025 season.
According to an investigation published by Indian outlet Tehelka, a former first-class cricketer, Rachit Bhatia, allegedly admitted to reporters that he provided information concerning the Chennai Super Kings in exchange for payments.
Alleged Information Sharing
The report claims that information about playing XIs was allegedly shared with bookmakers based in London through Snapchat.
Bhatia reportedly told journalists last December about match-fixing activities and his alleged role in passing information. The investigation claims he received around Rs6 million per match and that approximately Rs30 million was allegedly earned from information relating to five matches.
The allegations are based on a covert-camera investigation by Tehelka. The claims have not independently established that matches were fixed or that the information affected match results.
Young Wicketkeeper Also Named
The report further alleged that the individual providing information was a young wicketkeeper-batter. Cricket journalist Prateesh Haldar subsequently identified the player on X as Vansh Bedi.
Bedi was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs5.5 million at the IPL 2025 auction.
The allegations and reported admissions could face further scrutiny from the relevant cricket authorities. No conclusion of wrongdoing against the named players or teams should be drawn solely from the reported investigation.
