Street Children’s Art Exhibition Marks International Day of Artists at University of Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The University of Peshawar commemorated the International Day of Artists with a compelling art exhibition that spotlighted the creative voices of street children. Held at PUTA Hall as part of the University’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations, the event was a collaborative effort between the Department of Social Welfare (Merged Districts) and the Department of Art & Design.

Art as a Voice for the Marginalized

The exhibition provided a powerful platform for street children to express their experiences and challenges through visual storytelling. Organized in honor of the International Day of Artists, the initiative aimed to amplify their voices and promote inclusion through creative expression.

Collaboration for Impact

Supported by UNICEF, the event showcased artwork created by children engaged in life skills education, peer support networks, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) programs. Faculty members, university students, and representatives from UNICEF and the Department of Social Welfare attended the exhibition.

Honoring Contributors and Champions

Ms. Tayaba, former Chairperson of the Department of Fine Arts, served as Chief Guest. Special recognition was given to Ms. Qurat Ain and Ms. Faiza Tauqeer, Chairperson of the Department of Fine Art & Design, for their instrumental role in facilitating the exhibition and supporting the children’s creative journey.

Commitment to Future Engagement

The departments expressed their commitment to future collaboration, pledging to involve university students and faculty in art-based initiatives that empower street children. A souvenir was presented to the Department of Social Welfare team in appreciation of their continued efforts.
