India’s women’s cricket team did not receive the Women’s Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi after winning the title in Dubai, with head coach Amol Muzumdar saying the decision was made on the instructions of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Speaking at a press conference, Muzumdar said the team had become champions of Asia but followed the board’s decision regarding the trophy presentation. Asked when the players would receive the trophy, he said he had no information about it.
India absent from trophy presentation
Under the usual Asia Cup presentation protocol, the ACC president presents the trophy to the winning team. However, the Indian women’s team did not participate in the presentation ceremony and did not collect the trophy from Naqvi.
According to sources cited in the report, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla attempted to persuade the players to accept the trophy. However, the team had reportedly received clear instructions from the board not to do so.
Similar incidents involving Indian teams
The development follows a similar incident involving India’s men’s team after the 2025 Asia Cup final, when the players reportedly did not receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi.
In December 2025, India’s Under-19 team also reportedly declined to receive its runner-up medals from Naqvi.
The latest episode has once again drawn attention to trophy and medal presentations involving Indian teams and the ACC president.
