ISLAMABAD — Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Friday that former prime minister Imran Khan will be transferred to the Islamabad jail once construction of the facility is completed within the next two months.
Speaking to media in Islamabad, Naqvi said the new jail will be fully equipped with medical facilities. He stated that since Imran Khan was sentenced by a court in Islamabad, he will be shifted to the capital’s jail after its completion.
The announcement comes amid ongoing concerns raised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders regarding Imran Khan’s health during his detention at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
Government responds to health concerns
PTI leaders have alleged negligence in medical care, naming former Adiala Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum in their criticism. The government has rejected these claims.
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said Imran Khan is free to consult any doctor of his choice for an eye examination. He also dismissed allegations of prolonged medical neglect, stating there was no four-month delay in treatment and urging that the former prime minister’s health should not be politicized.
Imran Khan has been in custody following his conviction by an Islamabad court. Authorities say medical facilities are available in jail and that due process is being followed.
