Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan on Tuesday revealed that her brother kept getting backdoor offers, one such offer including house arrest at Bani Gala. Speaking to the media after Imran Khan’s visit to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Aleema Khan said that Ali Amin Gandapur had brought the offer of house arrest for her brother, but stressed that no one had approached Imran Khan directly about the proposals. “From day one Imran Khan was offered deals but no one came directly to him. Ali Amin Gandapur brought Bani Gala an offer of house arrest,” said Aleema Khan, adding that her brother was also advised to keep quiet. and refrain from speaking. Imran Khan – who has now been jailed for more than a year and a half – has consistently turned down such offers, according to his sister. Aleema Khan questioned the logic of placing him under house arrest after so long in jail. “If there was a backdoor, it would have happened by now,” she noted. Aleema Khan further elaborated that her brother had made his two demands clear, but expressed doubts about the sincerity of those acting on behalf of the government. “Imran Khan has been saying for two years that a judicial commission should be formed to investigate the events of May 9. If the government is serious about negotiations, it should not hesitate,” she said. Imran Khan called a judicial commission headed by a senior judge of the Supreme Court to review the events of May 9. Khan was not allowed to meet him in prison. “The doors to the meetings open at 7am, but the negotiating committee was not allowed to engage with him,” she said. Aleema Khan also slammed members of the government’s negotiating committee, accusing them of “stealing” PTI’s mandate. She emphasized that if the government shows seriousness, it can also be about other demands. Meanwhile, the stalemate in negotiations between the government and the PTI continues. Despite two rounds of talks, there was no sign of a third meeting, with no date set for the next meeting.
