Islamabad: Concerns over the health and safety of former Prime Minister Imran Khan intensified on Tuesday after his sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, said that he fears for his life in custody and warned that any harm to him would carry serious responsibility.
Addressing a press conference at Bani Gala, Dr. Uzma Khan shared details of her most recent meeting with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, where he has been held since August 2023. She said the former premier expressed grave concerns about his personal safety during the meeting and asked that his apprehensions be conveyed publicly.
According to Dr. Uzma, Imran Khan told her during the jail meeting that he feared a “slow death” in custody and conveyed that if anything were to happen to him, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir would be held responsible. She stated that she had initially refrained from making these concerns public at his request, but recent developments had compelled her to speak openly.
She added that statements made recently by the Interior Minister and what she described as an increasingly threatening environment had heightened the family’s fears, leading them to believe that the risks to the former prime minister’s safety were serious.
Dr. Uzma Khan also raised concerns about her brother’s health condition, reiterating the family’s demand for comprehensive medical care and access to his personal doctors. Imran Khan reportedly suffered significant vision loss in his right eye due to a blood clot. A medical board constituted under the supervision of the Supreme Court earlier reported partial improvement, noting that his eyesight had improved to 6/9 with corrective glasses.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has, however, termed the medical evaluation inadequate and has called for an independent and more detailed examination.

Government officials have maintained that the former prime minister is receiving appropriate medical care from qualified specialists and that his condition remains stable under medical supervision.
The allegations regarding security concerns have not been immediately responded to by the government or military authorities.
Meanwhile, PTI supporters have continued solidarity campaigns highlighting concerns about Khan’s health and incarceration. In symbolic gestures, some supporters and former cricketers have worn eye patches to draw attention to his reported eye condition.
The issue of Imran Khan’s health and security remains a central element of Pakistan’s ongoing political tensions, with his incarceration continuing to shape the country’s political landscape.
