LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is conducting forensic analysis of the mobile phones of Pakistan cricketers Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan as part of an ongoing investigation, according to sources.
Sources said the investigation is primarily focused on financial matters and suspected transactions. Financial activity before and after the Pakistan team’s England series is also being examined, while details of the players’ bank accounts are being reviewed.
Investigators are examining transactions recorded in the relevant period to determine the sources of funds and the recipients of payments. Payments allegedly made by companies, individuals or other organizations are also being scrutinized as part of the inquiry.
Digital Data Under Examination
According to NCCIA sources, data recovered from the players’ mobile phones is being examined alongside the financial investigation. Messages, contacts and other digital information are also undergoing forensic analysis.
Another aspect of the investigation concerns alleged dressing-room leaks during the England series, sources said.
Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan appeared before the NCCIA in Lahore on Thursday. Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had taken custody of the cricketers’ mobile phones and sent them to the relevant authorities for examination.
The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations under examination have not been established as wrongdoing by either player.
