ISLAMABAD: ICYF President Taha Ayhan visited the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad to review ongoing engagement and explore future collaboration on youth-related initiatives among OIC member states.
He was received by Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, who briefed the visiting delegation on the organization’s mandate, priority programmes, and regional outreach.
ICYF engagement discussed in science and youth development areas
During the meeting, Prof. Choudhary outlined OIC-COMSTECH’s work across science, technology, innovation, health, higher education, and youth capacity-building in OIC countries. He also referred to cooperation with OIC observer states, including Russia and Thailand, and specialised programmes with China.
Review of past initiatives and future collaboration
Both sides reviewed previous joint activities and discussed potential areas for expanded cooperation, including ICYF’s 2026 vision focused on preparing youth to respond to emerging global challenges. Proposals included launching an online skills development programme in emerging technologies through virtual universities, with an initial target of reaching around 5,000 young people annually from OIC member states.
Proposed training programmes and regional events
The meeting also discussed proposals for virtual training in disaster preparedness and pandemic management, along with plans to organise an OIC Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Exhibition in Iran in the spring of 2026.
Coordination with Prime Minister’s Youth Programme
Prof. Choudhary highlighted OIC-COMSTECH’s ongoing collaboration with Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, noting that the model could be adapted for wider use across OIC countries.
The meeting concluded with agreement to maintain coordination on youth-focused initiatives and institutional cooperation within the OIC framework.
