September 11, 2026: Tilly Norwood, described as Hollywood’s first AI-generated actress, has appeared in her first on-camera interview, where an acting exercise highlighted the limitations of AI-generated performances.
During an interview with CNN host Elizabeth Wagmeister, Norwood was given an audition-style task and asked to imagine discovering that her pet dog had died, then perform the emotional scene.
Norwood responded that if the situation were a real audition, she might simply stand silently and experience the grief “digitally,” rather than deliver a conventional performance.
AI performance requires prompts and processing
According to the report, initial prompts did not produce the desired emotional performance. Particle6, the company behind Norwood, subsequently required several hours of computer processing to complete the sequence.
The demonstration also prompted discussion about how AI-generated performers currently operate. Wagmeister pointed out that Norwood cannot independently decide how to perform a scene and instead relies on prompts and technical instructions to determine her actions and emotional presentation.
Tilly Norwood’s planned film debut
Norwood was created by Eline Van der Velden, who has expressed hopes that the AI character could eventually achieve a profile comparable to established actresses such as Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman.
Van der Velden has said, however, that Norwood was not created to replace human actors.
Tilly Norwood has not appeared in a released feature film so far. She is expected to take a leading role in the upcoming comedy-drama Miss Aligned, which is being developed through a collaboration between human filmmakers and AI specialists.
