ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has released an updated list of active MS/MPhil (Level 7) and PhD (Level 8) programs. This step aims to make the degree attestation process stronger and more transparent.
Training Sessions on Pakistan Qualification Register (PQR)
The update followed a series of nationwide training sessions on the Pakistan Qualification Register (PQR). These sessions were attended by focal persons from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). As a result, the accuracy of academic data used for verification and attestation is expected to improve.
Moreover, HEC highlighted that PQR is a centralized and authentic database. It records recognized academic programs that are aligned with the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
Role of HEIs and Focal Persons
Universities were advised to enter complete details of each program into the PQR. They must also ensure statutory body approvals for graduate programs.
In addition, the training emphasized the role of PQR focal persons. They act as the key link between HEC and universities. Their job is to resolve verification challenges and maintain transparent academic records.
Updated Lists for Students
After the training, HEIs verified their PQR entries. Therefore, HEC published updated lists on its website. These lists are publicly accessible and help students make informed admission choices.
HEC strongly advised prospective applicants to consult the PQR list and the NOC-issued list before applying. Otherwise, admission to unapproved programs could result in non-attestation of degrees.
Safeguarding Students and Building Trust
The PQR is the official registry of HEC-recognized programs. It shows the current status of each program (active, suspended, or closed).
Furthermore, it supports data-driven decisions by students, universities, employers, and regulators. In this way, it protects students from fraudulent admissions. It also helps universities maintain up-to-date academic records.
