ISLAMABAD/KARACHI/LAHORE: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will conduct the National Skill Competency Test (NSCT) across Pakistan on April 4–5, with more than 40,000 students from universities nationwide set to appear.
The test, aimed at assessing IT and computing skills, is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Pakistan Software Export Board, Pakistan Software Houses Association and the National Computing Education Accreditation Council. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between academic training and industry requirements.
The Virtual University of Pakistan has been designated as the testing body and will conduct the computer-based exam across 112 cities at 165 test centres.
A total of 40,784 students from 199 universities offering computing and IT programmes have registered for the test. Eligibility has been limited to students in their 7th and 8th semesters.
Focus on skills and employability
Officials said the initiative is part of a broader effort to align university education with market needs, improve the credibility of skill assessments and enhance graduate employability in Pakistan’s IT sector.
The test is expected to provide a standardised evaluation of students’ competencies in computing disciplines.
Monitoring and transparency measures
To ensure transparency, the Virtual University has deployed supervisory staff at all test centres. Monitoring control rooms have also been established in Lahore and Islamabad to oversee the process in real time.
Authorities said the arrangements are intended to ensure smooth conduct and maintain examination integrity across all locations.
Students have been advised to contact the Virtual University help desk for assistance through official channels.
