ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved a new Master of Science (MS) program in Media and Communication at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU), Shaheed Benazirabad, expanding opportunities for advanced studies in journalism and media.

The program is expected to benefit students in central Sindh by improving access to higher education and research-based learning within the region. However, the program will become operational after final approval and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Sindh Higher Education Commission, for which the university has already applied.

Focus on media education and research

University officials said the MS program aims to equip students with skills in research, analysis, and practical journalism aligned with current industry requirements.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Madad Ali Shah said media and mass communication plays a significant role in shaping social, intellectual, and political discourse in modern society. He noted that the new program would strengthen academic and research activities at the university.

Expanding higher education in Sindh

The initiative is also seen as part of broader efforts to enhance educational standards and provide local students with opportunities to pursue advanced degrees without relocating.

The vice chancellor expressed hope that graduates of the program would contribute positively to the media industry and bring recognition to both the university and Sindh.
