Heavy rains sweep UAE, Ras Al Khaimah records highest rainfall

Heavy rains swept across the United Arab Emirates on Friday (March 27), disrupting travel and prompting safety advisories as unstable weather conditions persisted, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). The rainfall affected multiple emirates, with authorities warning of reduced visibility and water accumulation on roads.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Shoukah, Ras Al Khaimah, where 77.5mm of rain was measured during the latest weather system. Several other areas also experienced significant downpours, highlighting the widespread impact of the current conditions.

Multiple regions record significant rainfall

Kalba in Sharjah recorded 65.8mm of rainfall, while Umm Al Gaf in Ras Al Khaimah received 60.6mm. In Fujairah, Wadi Al Tuwa recorded 57.2mm, and Al Dhaid in Sharjah registered 53.9mm, according to official data.

The NCM said the rainfall is part of a broader weather pattern bringing repeated waves of showers across the country. These conditions have been accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, driven by cloud formations moving from western regions.

Unstable weather to continue

Meteorological authorities said unstable conditions are expected to continue intermittently, with further chances of rainfall in scattered areas. The advisory indicates that weather patterns may remain active over the coming days.

Safety measures and response

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution, particularly while driving, due to the risk of waterlogging and low visibility. Emergency and municipal teams remain on standby to monitor developments and respond to incidents.

Motorists have been specifically advised to avoid flooded roads and follow official guidance issued by local authorities to ensure public safety.
