Peshawar : Department of Health Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Thursday inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with local organizations to address healthcare challenges faced by the marginalized segments of South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ensure better facilities and service delivery to the people.
The MoU was inked in a ceremony held here at Department of Health which was attended by Advisor to Chief Minister on Health, Ihtisham Ali and Special Secretary Health for Polio Eradication, Abdul Basit.
Director General Department of Health Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Muhammad Saleem, officials of Health Department, Provincial Emergency Operations Center and local organizations were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Advisor to CM on Health, Ihtisham Ali appreciated the initiative saying that provision of basic healthcare services to the deprived segments particularly women and children in southern parts of the province was a good step towards ensuring better healthcare and service delivery to the marginalized segments and vulnerable population.
He said that this initiative places a strong emphasis on protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases and ensuring maternal health services for women, reaffirming the department’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the most at-risk groups in the region.
Ihtisham Ali informed that under this initiative, the Health Department is refurbishing and operationalizing 35 healthcare facilities in 28 of the most underserved and high-risk Union Councils across South KP out of which 18 facilities will be revamped in D. I Khan while 13 facilities in District Tank, two in District Bannu and one each in District North Waziristan and in District South Waziristan Lower will also be refurbished to meet community needs.
Sharing his viewpoints, Director General Health Dept KP, Dr Muhammad Saleem said that the Health Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is dedicated to transforming these facilities into sustainable centers of care that meet operational standards and serve as reliable sources of healthcare for the region. Fully equipped with trained staff and essential medicines, these facilities will ensure that communities in South KP have consistent access to critical healthcare services.
This initiative represents a significant step toward addressing healthcare inequities and building healthier, more resilient communities in South KP, he added.
Special Secretary Health for Polio Eradication, Abdul Basit lauded the efforts of department of health for the landmark initiative saying that it will help in provision of better and improved healthcare services to the people in southern parts of the provinces.
He said that these facilities are strategically located to bring quality healthcare services directly to the doorsteps of the most affected communities in the region.
Abdul Basit said that the refurbished facilities will provide a wide range of services, including routine immunizations for children to protect them from preventable diseases, maternal healthcare, treatment for common illnesses, and community outreach programs aimed at promoting health awareness.
