India women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has stepped down from captaincy across all formats, bringing her leadership stint with the national side to an end.
Harmanpreet announced her decision on social media, saying that she had relinquished the captaincy of the team in all formats.
Indian media reports said the decision came after a BCCI review meeting in Guwahati.
“It was not an easy decision,” Harmanpreet said, reflecting on the years of memories and emotions associated with leading the Indian team.
Reports suggest that Smriti Mandhana is among the leading candidates to succeed Harmanpreet as India women’s captain.
Harmanpreet, however, will continue to represent India as a player after stepping down from leadership responsibilities.
The change marks a significant transition for the Indian women’s team as the board considers its next captain across formats.
