Hamdard University Islamabad hosts commemorative event in memory of Shaheed Hakim Mohammad Said

ISLAMABAD: Hamdard University Islamabad Campus organized a commemorative event titled “Yadein, Batein” to honor the life, vision, and services of Shaheed Hakim Mohammad Said, founder of Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, while highlighting key public health issues including blood donation, diabetes prevention, nutrition, and child health.

The event brought together healthcare professionals, academicians, students, and representatives of national and international organizations, reaffirming Hamdard’s long-standing commitment to education, healthcare, and community welfare.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, who attended as chief guest, paid tribute to Shaheed Hakim Mohammad Said, describing him as a rare national figure who combined knowledge, character, and public service. He recalled that Hakim Said authored the first Urdu book published in the former Soviet Union and that his travelogue Safarnama-e-Roos received recognition in Russia. He noted that Hakim Said viewed youth as the future of the Muslim Ummah and advocated a balanced, holistic approach to healthcare.

Chancellor of Hamdard University and President of Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, Sadia Rashid, said Hamdard was established on the vision and lifelong services of Shaheed Hakim Mohammad Said. She stated that Hamdard University integrates education, healthcare, research, and national service, adding that the contributions of Hakim Said in the field of medicine remain a source of inspiration for students and professionals. She emphasized the collective responsibility to carry forward his mission and values.

Former Governor Sindh Moinuddin Haider described Shaheed Hakim Mohammad Said as a non-controversial national figure and highlighted his role in promoting Pakistani medicines internationally, including his engagement with the World Health Organization. He noted that Hamdard continues its work not only in Pakistan but also in Bangladesh and India.

President of the Pakistan Association of Eastern Medicine, Hakim Abdul Hannan, said the life of Shaheed Hakim Mohammad Said demonstrated that knowledge, ethics, and service form the most enduring legacy. He added that Hakim Said’s vision continues to guide the youth and strengthen society.

WHO Representative Shahzad Alam appreciated Hamdard’s contributions to the health sector and acknowledged its support for public health initiatives in Pakistan.

Director General of Hamdard University Islamabad Campus Imtiaz Haider said Hakim Mohammad Said believed nations are built through character and service rather than rhetoric. He added that the university remains committed to integrating education with ethics, research, and social responsibility.

The event concluded with a message of reflection and unity, underscoring Shaheed Hakim Mohammad Said’s enduring contributions while promoting awareness of critical health issues relevant to Pakistan’s future.
